The Bagged Fahrenheit Taxi – Dan’s mk5 GLI

Side view of Dan’s mk5 Fahrenheit GLI – the bagged taxi

Dan is one of those local guys here in Milwaukee that you see him coming from a mile away because of his bright car, extremely low ride height, and impressively large beard. As part of the Function:Error crew, Dan is one of the very few non-Subaru cars in the crowd but one of my personal favorites. He recently converted his car from being one of the lowest rolling static cars to an even lower rolling bagged car with the help of Lower Standards’ very own Jason and Chubs doing the install. If you’re rolling through Milwaukee, keep an eye out for the bagged taxi. Dan is one of the nicest guys I know and he would love to give you a hug if you see him in person. (more…)

Quality Counts

When first receiving the invitation to the 1st ever Quality Counts Pop-up meet I was expecting a modest turnout, dominated mostly by Subaru. Lower Standards rolled into the show fashionably late, scraping underbody up 4 stories of the parking structure. The turnout was impressive with a good mix of JDM, euro, and even American cars. LSHQ

A constant light peering through the tiny rectangular entry door window accompanied by the muffled sound of 90s hip hop tracks can only mean one thing…..show season is right around the corner and there’s work to be done. The magic of Lower Standards all takes place at a shop in the suburbs of Milwaukee, which has been dubbed “LSHQ”.

And we became brothers

Lower Standards started in 2007 as a group of friends who all shared the common interest in lowered Volkswagens and Audis.  The group began its humble roots on VWVortex’s midwest forum as the Lower Standards thread, which still exists today.  The thread became a place to share ideas and pictures.  As the thread and its following grew, friendships began to form through get togethers and car shows.  Guys became good friends over this common love of near non-functionally low cars.  It didn’t matter whether we were hanging out in a parking lot or a garage. It was always a good time. (more…)
